How to size a trade

Decide how much of your account you're willing to lose if the stop is hit (most traders use 0.5% to 2%). Divide that by what one contract loses at your stop. Round down, never up.

Example: $10,000 account, 1% risk = $100. A 20-point stop on MNQ costs $40 per contract, so you can trade 2 MNQ ($80 risk). On NQ the same stop costs $400, so NQ is too big for that account.
